This cobblestone house at 633 Telephone Road is one of three built by Andrew Bushman, an early settler, in the 1840s. This was originally a five bay neo-classical house typical of the 1840s but modifications have been made altering its original appearance. Bushman also built two other cobblestone houses on Rush-Henrietta Townline Road for his sons. Richard Palmer blog.
Subject #27, page 18, "Survey of Cobblestone Masonry in the Rush - Mendon Area", by Richard Burton Wood (1934-1992), May 18, 1955. Essay submitted to Dr. Hersey, Art 146, Class of 1956 University of Rochester.
The Bushman house has remained in the original family for over a century. It is no the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Bushman, great grandson of the builder, Jack Bushman. The original house was gradually modified and enlarged to 10 rooms, mainly during the late nineteenth century victorian era. The wing, built of wood, was later stuccoed. Victorian details, unusual in cobblestone structures, add to its charm.
Editor's Note: Apparently written for a Cobblestone Tour pamphlet and not used. Date unknown.
Added to the Town of Henrietta Historic Sites on 12/16/1981.
